What is the cold war?
The Cold War was basically a period of time where the western part of the globe was in conflict over the eastern countries namely Russia. Russia put missals on Cuba which made the U.S fear that the thought of communism will spread across the world. U.S. told Russia to remove the missals, and russia refused. At that moment that started the cold war.
People that Impacted The cold war
John F. Kennedy - The 35th president of the united states from January 1961 till 1974. Kennedy is known for solving the Cuban missile crisis peacefully. Which is when Americans discovered nuclear weapons being made in Cuba. Kennedy supported overseas activities waging in the cold war. He also ordered an increase of funds for nuclear missiles. He set off an arms race because the soviet union wanted to make atomic bombs too so they both competed to make the biggest and strongest bombs. Sadly Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.
Richard Nixon- The 37th president from 1969-1974. He was an anticommunist so he was against communism. During his presidency he was presented the idea of MAD or Mutual Assured Destruction. This was a military document that in short said "whoever shoots first dies second." Or if one attacked first they would get attacked back. Nixon was not trying to win the war but he was merely trying to control it. For example, he made new relationships with China because their was tension between the two countries he let a ping pong tournament run along America which pleased China. He also helped by going to the soviets and agreeing to the SALT I which set limits to the production of nuclear weapons and use of them.
Joseph Stalin- The leader of the Soviet union is Joseph Stalin. He makes a big impact on the cold war because he basically removed any thinking democratically, just to input his own ideas in power, which is not right. He created a secret police and anybody against him basically died. All his opponents vanished into thin air without anybody really caring because they were so far into his brainwash
Leonid Brezhnev- He was the leader of the soviet union during the 18 years of the climax of the Cold war from 1964, to 1982. He was know for the insane advancement in nuclear arms, but this also costed Greatly on the Soviet economy. He met with the US President Richard Nixon and try to calm the relationship from the Soviet Union to America. He signed the SALT I Agreement which stated basically to cut low on nuclear war heads.

Four topics that contributed to the Cold War
North Korea- North Korea went through a war with South Korea in which the United states decided to intervene and help the south Koreans. At this time North Korea was allies with the soviets and in this case America was practically in war with the soviets. This war was called the Korean War It lasted for 3 years until china backed up the North Koreans and killed thousands of Americans. China- On June 1949 the Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong announced that New China would support the Soviet Union in international affairs 3 months before china became known as the (PRC) People's Republic of China which made it a communist country. The Americans tried to create a relationship with china, but with the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950 it destroyed any possible relationships between the two countries, because Chinese were on the side with the North Koreans .
Communism- Communism was the government that actually created this whole situation in the first place. Since the U.S. opposed Communism, and Russia became a communistic country, this made tensions worse. Also russia put missles on Cuba so that made The United States on edge and paranoid. The same effect happened to Russia after droping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
NATO- Basically NATO is a group of 12 founding countries that share a similar military. Russia is not in NATO And during this time it was still in communism. One of the countries inside NATO was The United States of America. NATO's basic agenda was to bring together and strengthen the western countries incase of an invasion by the Soviet Union.
